St. Thomas Hospital was started as a dispensary in 1972 by the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph (FSJ), an order of Roman Catholic Sisters, founded in 1883, dedicated to the upliftment of women in society, especially the downtrodden, marginalized and the oppressed.It was established as a Hospital a year later and has since grown, nurtured with the dedication and hard work of sisters who work in different professional roles and skilful Doctors with a mind to serve the poor and the prayers and support of the entire congregation of more than 500 FSJ sisters living in small communities all around the nation braving hardships and taking their undying message of love and service to the farthest corners possible.

  • 1975 – Visible experience of the Providence of God
  • 1980 – Construction of additional building
  • 1983 – Process of Modernization begins
  • 1984 – New Sister`s Community in the Hospital premises
  • 1985 – Dr. Sr. Rexline takes charge of the Hospital administration
  • 1986 – Establishment of Oncology Department
  • 1987 – New Structure for better facilities for patients
  • 1990 – The arrival of the first vehicle for the hospital
  • 1992 – Additional Operation Theatre
  • 1993 – Starting of the Nursing School & Out Reach Programme
  • 1997 – Construction of a Multi-purpose Hall
  • 1998 – Silver Jubilee year of the Hospital
  • 2004 – Dialysis unit
  • 2005 – Construction of an independent Paediatric Ward
  • 2008 – Modern ICU with the latest machines and fittings
  • 2009 – Modular State of the Art operation-theatre
  • 2010 – Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) Water Purifying Plant
  • 2011 – Blood Bank
  • 2012 – Facelift of the hospital
  • 2014 – Inauguration of New Chapel and Building
  • 2017 – EMR Renovation
  • 2018 – NABH Pre-Accreditation
  • 2018- Higher Capacity liquid 02 plan installed 
  • 2019- Kayakalp Certificate from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare GOI 
  • 2019- Best Performance award from Chief Minister's Comprehensive Heath Insurance Scheme 
  • 2019- Rated as one of the Top Fifteen Hospital in Ortho segment by TOI
